International Forum & AGM
Posted by IPA Scotland/ PlayRight Scotland Trust
Last updated: Friday 25th April, 2008, 5:42pm

The international forum on the 6th of June is an opportunity to exchange knowledge, skills and experience related to the right to play of children in disadvantaged circumstances. Confirmed speakers to date are:

  • Kreangkrai Chaimuangdee, Director, and colleagues, from TLSDF - www.rakdek.or.th
  • Harry Shier, CESESMA, Nicaragua - www.cesesma.org
  • Maria de los Angeles Espinoza, former child worker, now computer engineer, businesswoman and community worker, Nicaragua
  • Theresa Casey, President, International Play Association - www.playworld.org

‘The Child’s Right to Play – International Perspectives, Local Action’ will include presentations, a panel discussion and small group discussion opportunities, with a poster session over lunch. The discussion groups will explore themes such as:

  • the status of Article 31 in relation to the UNCRC as a whole;
  • tensions arising from advocating for the right to play of children experiencing/growing up in difficult circumstances (both in the UK and in the majority world);
  • fostering international dialogue and support.

Following the event, the IPA Scotland branch and PlayRight Trust AGM will take place, from 3.30- 4pm.

The forum is open to IPA Scotland members, invited organisations with an interest in children’s rights and/or play, childcare & playwork students and young people from the local secondary school. Spaces are limited so book early. Participation in the forum is free but donations to the PlayRight Scotland Trust are welcome.

If you would like more information on the forum or the exchange project, contact Theresa Casey: theresacasey@playforlife.fsnet.co.uk or 01620 820 352.
