At the meeting on Monday 8th March the Trustees considered 10 applications for funding amounting to £26,755.36. The Trustees awarded the following grants:
Glasgow Children's Holiday Scheme provides families referred by Social Workers, teachers and health visitors with a weeks holiday. Children can go and stay with host families, stay in a caravan with their own family or visit a teen ranch and participate in an outward bound experience. A grant of £1,500 was awarded to support young people visiting the teen ranch.
St Aidan's High School, Wishaw works to develop responsibilities in their pupils by encouraging them to support disabled young people in a project in India. Each year the school sends pupils to India where they work with the project to improve the lives of the young disabled. On their return home the pupils make presentations to the school community, feeder primaries and their local parish communities about what they achieved. A grant of £1,000 supported the development of the school pupils.
St Joachim's Primary School is a small primary in Carmyle. The school works hard to offer their pupils a broad range of experiences. For the past 3 years they have sent their P6/7 to an outdoor centre to build their self confidence and prepare them for the transition to high school. A grant of £1,000 was awarded to help defray the cost and allow all the pupils the experience.
St Michael's Primary School, Dumbarton is based in an area of multiple deprivation and unemployment. The school provides alternative educational experience to develop the children's social and emotional skills. A grant of £2,593 was awarded to support P7 pupils attend an outdoor camp.
St Mungo's Academy based in the East End of Glasgow the school applied for a grant to support their visit to Italy. The trip was planned to enable the pupils to engage with an environment outside their own, to develop their communication skills outside the classroom and to widen their knowledge of their Christian Catholic heritage. A grant of £1,250 was awarded.
St Stephen's Parish Council the parish is registered as an Eco-Congreation and is worrking towards a full award. They are working with the local community and developing an allotment. A grant of £270 was awarded to purchase necessary equipment.
St Teresa's Primary is based in Possilpark in the North of Glasgow which is an area of multiple deprivation. The school applied for a grant to support their fundraising to allow P6/7 attend an outward bound week, an environment that is very different from the one in which they live. A grant of £1,500 was awarded.
St Vincent's Hospice based in Howwood the hospice offers palliative care for the terminally ill throughout the Renfrewshire area. A grant of £2,016 was awarded to support 12 volunteers participate in a Bereavement Support programme. This applications had been deferred from December.
Theatre Nemo was established in 2000 to promote good mental health and wellbeing through creative arts. Those participating in the project are from areas of high deprivation where instances of mental ill health are more prevalent. A grant of £1,900 was awarded to provide resources for a programme of workshops and performances to encourage participants to develop confidence and strategies to help them cope with their difficulties. This application had been deferred from December.
One application was refused as the project did not meet the criteria.
